Regional college closes despite protests

The University of Plymouth this week confirmed it would be closing its popular Exmouth campus despite overwhelming opposition from students, teachers and the local community, according to Exmouth correspondent Tom 'Big T' Shepherd. The University's board of governors will relocate Rolle College (the Exmouth site of the University of Plymouth) to a single central site in Plymouth, but the closure threatens to have a hugely negative impact on the local economy of the small seaside town and deny students the opportunity to access courses close to their home.
The President of Exmouth Campus, Katie Shaw, told NUSOnline: ‘The decision has left the whole student community heart-broken... It's outrageous that the university has taken this decision with blatant disregard for the views of students, staff and local residents who have spoken out against this. We continue our fight against this ill-judged decision.'

Julian Nichols NUS Vice President Education said in a statement on the NUSOnline site: ‘Yet again, the views of students and trade unions have been brushed under the carpet to ensure the university's agenda is being met. They cite a cost-saving measure with no regard to the damage this relocation will cause to the local community.
NUS will continue to fight against closures such as these which not only wipe out valuable community resources but most importantly stamp out the aspirations of students wishing to go on to further study.
