Students find out who has the write stuff

The National Union of Students UK and the Daily Mirror have announced the National Student Journalism Awards 2005 shortlist. Judges ranging from media as diverse as Channel Four, Attitude Magazine and Heat have spent the last few months deliberating over a record number of entries. Battling it out for the highly sought after title of Best Student Newspaper of the year are Cardiff University 's Gair Rhydd (picture below, winning last year's award), University of London 's London Student, Nouse and York Vision from the University of York and Cherwell of Oxford University. Other categories include Best Student Feature Writer, Best Student Reporter and Best Student Publication Designer. ‘Once again we have had an incredible amount of entries and the high standard of work has made the task of judging a tough one,' said Daily Mirror editor Richard Wallace. ‘Congratulations to everyone who has made the shortlist.' The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony on November 12 at the Marriot Hotel, West India Quay. Prizes for the winners include ?500 cash and work experience at the Daily Mirror.
