According to the Guardian, the University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583, making it one of Scotland's oldest universities. Today it is one of the top universities in the UK, highly-rated for the quality of its teaching and research. There are more than 23,000 students at the university; with over 120 countries represented, the student population is diverse, with a good social and cultural mix.
