
Latitude Festival

What, you may ask, are these so-called ‘restivals' that they keep writing about in the oh-so-clever music rags and broadsheets this summer? Someone told me that Mean Fiddler's inaugural Latitude Festival was a restival, and further elaborated by saying it was along the lines of a more a more relaxing, East Anglian alternative to this year's AWOL Glasto. They were right, too, because Latitude did in fact channel the relaxed, free-spirited atmosphere of Somerset 's annual mudfest, only without the, er, mud. Or, indeed, 100,000-odd people. Because Latitude's relaxed, mild-mannered, air extended to its organsiers' attempts to market the event and, you know, like actually sell some tickets . Apparently between 12,000 and 15,000 people turned up, making the lush green site seem pleasingly spacious at times and slightly lacking in life at others. The intimate atmosphere was most welcome, however, when it came to the important stuff like queuing for the toilets or the beer tent.
