Capcom Classics Collection
Capcom, PS2 / Xbox, £19.99 - Out 18 November 2005

I don't really think a lot of the 80s: boys wearing girls' clothes, girls wearing boys' clothes, dire music, the hand of god and the old bag Thatcher. In fact, the only bit of the decade worth talking about would be the rise of arcade machines and the birth of game consoles. Here we have the Capcom Classics Collection, 22 top drawer (ok, mostly top or middle drawer) arcade games from the mid-80s to the early-90s. The disc includes bona fide arcade classics such as the granddaddy of beat-em-ups, Final Fight, Forgotten Worlds, Commando, Mercs and Street Fighter II (all three versions of it). Also on offer are console classics 1942, Ghouls ‘N Ghosts and Exed Eyes.

To be honest, most of the 22 games are worthy of inclusion, with the exception of Son son, a slightly crappy platformer, and a few others hardly worth mentioning. Hats off to Capcom, normally bundles like this contain one or two good titles and the rest is just stocking filler, but that's not the case here. The Classics Collection will keep you and your mates reminiscing about the good ol'/crap ol' 80s for weeks to come as you each desperately try to outdo each other on the 1942 high score table. Good job Capcom. Review by James Cocks
