Inside Deep Throat (certificate 18)
Momentum Pictures - Out 26 September 2005

It was filmed in six days for just 25 thousand dollars. The US government didn't want anyone to see it and banned the movie in 23 states. Yet it grossed over 600 million dollars and is the most profitable film in motion picture history. It is Deep Throat, the world's first mainstream porn film, and this is its story. More than 30 years after the film's provocative debut, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato's documentary examines the legacy that this notorious film left on society.

Deep Throat is a unique film by any standards, its director, Gerard Damiato, was a swinger and former hairdresser who discovered vulnerable wannabe porn star Linda Lovelace, and immediately saw the potential in her ability to get an entire erect penis down her throat. Damiato put together a slapstick storyline transforming Lovelace into a woman with a clitoris in her gullet and, presto, Deep Throat was born, and with it a million male fantasies leading to a disturbing societal trend that this crudely entertaining film never fully addresses. Inside Deep Throat does a good job on the conception, production, distribution and chaotic screen career of the movie, but shirks too many of the bigger issues and is ultimately as shallow as the 1972 film it documents.
