Super Monkey Ball Deluxe
Sega, PS2, Xbox £29.99 - Out 26 August 2005
Prepare to say ‘Hi' to Ai Ai, Mee Mee, Baby and Gangon – no, not some twisted take on the Teletubbies, but the stars of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe as it makes its debut on the PS2 and Xbox. Play as one of the four primates as they roll around 300-odd 3D mazes (many of which have been ported across from the game's original Gamecube incarnation) in a race to collect bananas (what else?) and quash Dr Baboon's evil plan to starve the monkey population.
Anyone familiar with the original will recognise the addictive Monkey Ball antics, but in addition Sega have thrown in 12 mini games, featuring everything from monkey tennis, to monkey bowling to – get ready! – monkey dog fighting! The main game plays fiendishly well, looks good and generally provides a whole heap of family fun. And whilst the mini games are a bit of a letdown (some feel like they've been tagged on as an afterthought), there really is something for everyone here – whether you're three years-old or 23 years-old half slumped over your PS2, kebab in hand at 3am.
